Compared to its predecessor, it looks better, moves faster, throws you further and loves you more. The track design is more extraordinary than ever and full of flourishes that I can barely begin to emulate with my own creations, the new gameplay modes fit right in, and indeed Platform is arguably more addictive than anything in the first game all by itself. There is more of the same in here, but it's more of the same with 900mph flying bells on, and the result is a must-buy game. An exquisite synthesis of the racing and puzzle genres.
One of the many nice things about TrackMania Sunrise is that it offers many modes. You get four solo modes, for example. In race mode, you simply try to beat the clock. Well, not exactly "simply," considering the tracks are filled with hairpin turns, surprise obstacles, outrageous jumps, and other challenges. Each race only lasts about a minute, but you'll often need to race a track quite a few times to figure out exactly how to beat it.
Sunrise is, unfortunately, very big on unlocking tracks, and you must race near-perfectly to get that vaunted gold medal. You'll have to get 1st place on a lot of genuinely challenging and sometimes aggravating tracks, and that doesn't actually guarantee the gold. The gold is gained by beating a certain time, instead of simply getting to the finish line first.
