Madden NFL 13 is a fantastic update to the series. It feels like a complete overhaul. Sure, some of the new things will need tweaking in the years to come, but this is a great step in the right direction.
Despite that engine tune-up that does improve some of the realism through the player physics, Madden NFL 13 plays relatively the same as its close predecessors.
The new Infinity Engine and the Connected Careers give American Football fans new reasons to buy Madden NFL 13. Although the game might not be perfect, the positive changes outweigh the negative ones. Electronic Arts is on the right track to turn this franchise toward excellence.
The bottom line, though, is that Madden is an enjoyable title that, while still having a few flaws, will give a football fan hours of solid gameplay.
Madden NFL 13 trots out the same basic experience one more time, creating an enjoyable game without any major improvements.

Overall, Madden remains quite raw. The engine shows a great deal of promise, and Connected Careers features a lot of interesting ideas, but there's no question that this is a rebuilding year. The best news is that EA finally seems to be on the right track. Give it another year, and Madden may at least be a true contender. [Oct 2012, p.72]
