Let's see, crazy costumes? Check. Ridiculously destructive superpowers? Check. Snarling supervillain groups? Check. Helpless civilians and highly-placed contacts requiring your services? Check. Henchmen to be mowed down by the dozens? Check check check check check. City of Heroes, the first massively multiplayer online superhero game, has all the basics of the genre down. But you can check off a few more important elements that rocket the title beyond a gimmick and into the realm of just plain good gaming: it's easy to get into, the combat rocks, and it's a blast to play with friends.
Like many MMOs are trying to do nowadays, City of Heroes tries to tie the story into the gameplay. And like many MMOs it does a mixed job of it and will require some reading, which I really don't mind even if some do.
